THE LEADER of the Conservative group in Thurrock has expressed his anger at the presence of an illegal encampment in Chadwell St Mary.
The presence of the camp near to Defoe Parade was flagged up by local Labour councillor, Barbara Rice.
Thurrock Council has now instigated proceedings through their partnership with the Essex Council Traveller Unit.
However, cllr Rob Gledhill has reminded the authorities of the motion that was voted through by Thurrock Council last month.
Cllr Gledhill said: "Conservative Spokesperson for Highways Sue Little has visited the travellers in Chadwell, delivering some black plastic sacks to help them clear up the site, and to find out why they have again set up on this ground.
After finding out there were no temporary sites available locally, they will be taking advice from the Essex Traveller Unit and look to move on after helping out at a local boxing club.
This is why Thurrock Conservatives called for the Council to take action similar Essex and Harlow to prevent these incursions and to open open up dialogue with all Essex Councils, to ensure everyone supplies its fair share of appropriate traveller provision as we do.
"We hope our direct action helps reduce or prevent a clean up bill for the taxpayers and help prompt a Essex solution for traveller provision needs sooner rather than later"
