FIRE CREWS were called to tackle a blaze in an outbuilding in Parsonage Road in Grays. Crews in breathing apparatus used two hose reels to tackle the blaze, working quickly and professionally to prevent spread to the neighbouring three-storey block of flats.

Crews arriving at the scene reported that the outbuilding, measuring 5m x 7m, was well alight. Firefighters in breathing apparatus used two hose reels to tackle the blaze, which was out by 23:58 hrs. Once the fire was out, a high pressure fan was used to clear the building of smoke.

Firefighters administered oxygen therapy to a 57-year-old woman suffering from the affects of breathing in smoke. She was later left in the care of Ambulance Service paramedics.

A fire investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the incident.
