WE WILL fix Thurrock’s roads says Labour’s candidate for Thurrock Polly Billington.

Labour has pledged £300 million to fix the dire state of roads across the country through a fully costed Pothole Fund, which will see 24 million potholes mended in the next five years.

Polly said, “Local roads are in dire need of repair and have been neglected under this government. People who are just trying to get to work or drop their kids off at school are having their cars damaged by potholes.Labour’s extra investment will ensure that spending on local roads will increase over the course of the next Parliament and bring an end to the growing pothole crisis.”

This extra investment will be funded by switching spending within the existing transport budget. Labour’s national pledge is welcome news for Thurrock’s Labour run council which is also investing to improve the Borough’s roads.

Cllr Oliver Gerrish, cabinet member responsible for highways welcomed the proposed extra funding, “This will be good news for Thurrock residents and our streets. The Pothole Fund would support the extra £4 million we are putting into Thurrock’s highways. We are investing in road resurfacing across the length and breadth of the borough but need to keep up the momentum.”
