THE HEADLINE could have been: "Thurrock Council pledge to do its job" but in a remarkable display of people power the council has conceded that it may need to do more to clean up Grays.
Businesses, residents and folk just passing through have been left aghast at the state of the high street. Others were even more concerned at the "let them eat cake" statement from the council a few days ago, which stressed that they were not responsible for the dropping of litter.
However, all this week, residents have been placing photos of litter on social media.
Others have been, rightly or wrongly, drawing a parallel to the increase in arson attack s in Grays and the proliferation of litter.
A petition was drawn up on Thursday morning and even in a few hours gained over 150 signatures.
In a short statement, Thurrock Council stated: “We agree it isn’t clean enough and will put it right.
"People will see a difference within the next few days.”
