THREE of Thurrock Council’s libraries will be going wild next month.
The libraries at Grays, Corringham and Chadwell – the information centre – are taking part in the nationwide Big Wild Rumpus 2015.
The campaign aims to celebrate the nation’s love of the Maurice Sendak book, Where the Wild Things Are on 13 June at 11am.
Wild things will be gathering in villages, towns and cities across the country at that time, reading the book aloud and enjoying a Big Wild Rumpus where gnashing of teeth, rolling of eyes and showing of claws will be actively encouraged as young and old alike unleash their inner wild things.
The three libraries will be hosting a wild story time and inviting visitors to make their own terrible noise – they can even bring along a small empty drinks bottle to make shakers on the day to add to the noise.
Family Learning from Grays Adult Community College will be at the Grays library in Orsett Road to make masks and shakers and support the event.
The library at Corringham will also have some activities on offer on the day from the local community.
The events are free and open to all ages who are young at heart.
