SET in 30 acres of Essex countryside in the village of Orsett, the annual Orsett Show is a great day out with attractions for all the family and is one of, if not the, most popular family event in Thurrock. It’s one of the oldest one-day Country Shows in England, with the 109th Show taking place on Saturday 5 September 2015.
Being a registered Charity run mainly by volunteers, the aim of the Orsett Show is to promote countryside matters, the borough of Thurrock and local businesses. Some 300 Companies, Schools, Organisations and Charities came together to promote their businesses, sell products, inform and network in a fun filled family day attended by over 13,500 people in 2014.
At the Show, there are marquees featuring Horticulture, Agriculture, Hobbies & Handicrafts, Schools, Craft Stalls and over 150 Trade Stands. There’s an ever-changing programme of exciting displays in the Grand Display Ring and events and competitions throughout the day in the Horse Rings. There’s certainly something for everyone at the Orsett Show!
All of the details of this year’s Show can be found on the new Orsett Show website www.orsettshow.co.uk where you will find details of how you can enter everything from the various horse classes to your prize-winning pumpkins or cakes. Entering is very easy and you can either do this online as the forms are on the website or you can download them, complete and send back to us. There will once again be a family stage area which we are organizing with Impulse Leisure with entertainment throughout the day from local groups and clubs. The Thurrock Community Chest will also be holding their Annual Prize Draw at the Orsett Show, where the top prize is a car! Just think you could attend the Orsett Show and leave having won a car!!
New for 2015, Orsett Show have written to all Thurrock Schools asking them to take part in a ‘Grow the heaviest pumpkin’ competition. Each School has been sent a packet of pumpkin seeds which have kindly been donated by Altons Garden Centre and Thurrock Garden Centre. Each packet contains 10 seeds and planting instructions. Every School has been asked to submit 1 pumpkin to Orsett Show on Saturday 5 September 2015 where the judging will take place. The winning School will receive a Trophy and £25 book token. The intention is for this to now be an annual event and a shield will be presented each year with the winning school having their name engraved on the shield and keeping it for that year.
Have your school planted their seeds yet? For more information on this competition, please contact Andrea Ince, Show Publicist on Tel: 07971 000519 or Email: [email protected]
