WOODSIDE Academy year 5 and 6 children finished the year with a fully staged version of Lloyd Webber’s musical, Cats, made even more professional by the new stage lighting generously provided by the Friends of Woodside.
The school has a tradition of summer productions with year 6 children taking the lead while year 5 form a backing choir. In recent years performances have included Midsummer Night’s Dream, Matilda and The Wizard of Oz.
Children acting in this production were seasoned performers having been part of Woodside’s contribution to the Shakespeare Schools Festival at the Thameside Theatre in their year 5 with versions of Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth and again last autumn with Twelfth Night.
Woodside principal Edward Caines said “the show was a complete delight from beginning to end with children rising to the challenge of a professional production”.
