A 52-year old man from Brentwood has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving following a collision with a parked police car on the A13.
Officers were called to the A13, near the Tilbury Dock approach road, after reports of a broken down vehicle causing an obstruction.
Whilst officers were assisting with recovery, a car travelling on the motorway collided with the police patrol vehicle.
The driver was breathalysed and subsequently arrested.
Sgt Chris Bramhill said "While many people are aware of the dangers of drink-driving, there is still a small minority of people who think that drinking before getting behind the wheel is safe. Fortunately, in this particular instance no one was injured but the outcome could have been much more serious.”
The man has been released on police bail pending further enquiries until 15th September.
