OVER 10,000 vehicles are expected to arrive at this year’s V Festival so Essex County Council is encouraging motorists to be aware of delays and road closures on the major routes in and around Chelmsford.
Monday, August 24, could see the heaviest tail backs as up to 50,000 revellers leave the Hylands Park venue. Consequently, Essex County Council is closing the A414 Three Mile Hill and Greenbury Way from 9pm on Sunday, August 23, to 4pm the following day to minimise possible traffic jams caused by vehicles leaving the festival site.
An enforceable 30mph speed limit will be in place from Friday, August 21, throughout the weekend and on Monday to maintain road safety.
Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Maintenance and Small Schemes, Cllr Eddie Johnson, said: “Our traffic management team has gained 20 years’ experience of supervising V Festival road movements. This has included working closely with the organisers and developing contingency plans to meet most eventualities, including a complete closure of the A12.”
Essex Traffic Control Centre (ETCC) employees will continue to monitor traffic and deploy strategically placed temporary signals to minimise congestion throughout the weekend, if required.
Cllr Johnson, added: “We want everybody to enjoy the experience of the festival but we also want them to arrive and travel home safely.
