Tilbury FC now five games unbeaten

By Dominic Brock

ATER a second victory this month over Maldon and Tiptree and another victory against Waltham Abbey, Tilbury Football Club is now on a streak of five games unbeaten. The good run of form has also meant the club is now up to seventh in the league. The month shows positive signs of Tilbury’s potential for the future.

In an interview with first team manager, Gary Henty, he expressed the great positivity the club has at the moment as both of their last two victories have come from being behind. The Maldon and Tiptree game proved to be a “Great show of character” from the players, as, after the disappointment of going two goals down very early on, the team bounced back making it almost one-way traffic as they were on equal terms by half time. They then used the momentum they had from the first half to come out with a 3-2 victory. A very rewarding result considering their last match up was a cup match that went all the way down to penalties.

Waltham Abbey was very similar in the end, with the team going a goal down early on and coming back to get a 2-1 final score. Tilbury manger Gary Henty said that he and the team were now “No longer afraid of going a goal down” as the team have proved to be so reliable and consistent when making comebacks.

The team are now pushing up the league table, but when asked about how high he could push the club, Henty was very realistic saying that “There is no target being set” and that for now he’d just like “To improve on last season’s league finish” which was a solid 11th place when the season came to a close last year. Obviously there are some fans who would like to see them go higher, but realism is important in football and not to get carried away with results and league positions.

Tilbury’s next two matches this weekend are an away match against Brightlingsea Regent with the team returning home for another cup game on the Tuesday against Billericay Town. Both should be hotly contested matches and with Tilbury’s form only getting better and better.
