Council Staff Moonwalks In London
A Thurrock Council employee will be joining 16,000 women and men this Saturday (16 May) to walk the walk for breast cancer wearing decorated bras.
Carol Cole of the Children, Education and Families directorate will be taking part in the Playtex Moonwalk, an event which raises money and awareness for breast cancer research and cancer care.
Organised by the Walk The Walk charity, Carol will be power-walking her way through over 13 miles during the midnight hours in a bra she hand decorated in feathers and flashing lights.
Carol, who has worked for the council for over 30 years, is aiming to raise £500 for the charity.
She said: “I have been training for the last three months, walking around Stanford-le-Hope, East Tilbury and Grays. This is my fourth time taking part in this event and, apart from helping to broaden awareness for such a good cause, participating in the moonwalk helps keep me fit.
“It is also great to be walking with so many other inspirational people who have suffered the effects of the disease either firsthand or through someone close to them, such as a mother or wife. Many of these stories are expressed through the t-shirts the walkers wear on the day.”
The walk takes about four and a half hours and includes Hyde Park, Westminster, London Bridge, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament.
This year’s theme for the event is Strictly Come Dancing and some of the female dancers from the BBC One show will be joining other participants on the day.
