Cllr Maureen Pearce has been sworn in as the new Mayor for Thurrock for the following year.
In a brief ceremony she took over from outgoing John Everett who after an interesting year in the chair of the chamber will look forward to gardening rather than the delicacies of constitutional law when an unexpected action takes place.
As expected Cllr Pearce was voted in by 26 to 23 with the three independents voting with the Tories. Cllr Eddie Hardiman was voted in by the same margin as deputy.
For the first time and we certainly hope not the last yourthurrock cameras were allowed into the council chambers to film the ceremony and talk to the new Mayor about the coming year.
