Apparently, It all started with the tunnels down in the Chafford Hundred Gorge!
In April, Matt Harris from North Stifford digital communications agency Pixelwork was invited to New York City to speak at the prestigious Explorers Club (www.explorers.org).
Last week, Matt, 39, got voted in by the committee as a Fellow of the Club. Matt is in fine company as fellow fellows include Sir Edmund Hillary and Neil Armstrong.
Fellowship is reserved for those who have distinguished themselves by directly contributing to scientific knowledge in the field of geographical exploration or allied sciences.
Established in 1904 in New York, for more than a century, members of the Club have traversed the earth, the seas, the skies, and even space, on expeditions of exploration.
There are a number of firsts under the belts of club members including both firsts to the North and South Pole, first summit of Everest and first to the surface of the moon (the Apollo team club members took an Explorers Club flag with them).
YourThurrock spoke to Matt about the nature of exploring, his achievements to date and his future plans.
