Does One Hammer Make A Summer?

WEST HAM and Grays fans have reacted with disappointment at the news that only one West Ham regular is expected to be playing at the New Rec this sunday.

Both sides have billed the pre-season clash as a first team fixture but only Hammer Herita Ilunga played more than 30 games last season.

Confusion may well have been caused by the discrepancies in posters around the borough. The poster at Chafford Hundred School states West Ham but another outside the West Ham store in Lakeside states that it will be the West Ham squad.

Among the Hammers playing are (last years league starts in brackets) James Collins (17), Julien Faubert (15), Jack Collison (16), Junior Stanislas (7), Savio (1) while Daniel Gabbidon, Kelvin Davis and Josh Payne did not make any league appearances at all. Injury-plagued England international Kieron Dyer is also set to star.

Also noticeable by their absence is Robert Green, Luis Boa-Morte, Carlton Cole,Mark Noble, Dean Ashton, Scott Parker and Matthew Upson.

Nevertheless, a bumper crowd is expected at the New Rec for the curtain raiser to the season.

Both Gianfranco Zola and Steve Clarke will be in charge of the team. Former Hammers such as Tony Cottee, Alan Devonshire and Tony Gale will also be present.

Ticket Prices are £20 adults and £10 children under-12 and over-65.

The match kicks off at 3pm on Sunday July 12th.
