After a period of doubt over its future, Thurrock Mental Health Service User and Carer Forum has been given a new lease of life with the support of Thurrock MIND.
The Forum serves as a sounding board for compliments and complaints about the mental health services in Thurrock as well as a chance to hear about new services and propose ideas for new ones that are put to the commissioning body.
At the May meeting it was confirmed that the facilitator role would now be held for the next year by Thurrock MIND and a new chairperson was adopted. All attending members of the Forum agreed that all the changes should be viewed as a new chapter and that the opportunity to invigorate the group should now be grasped.
As part of the move to recruit new members, the decision was made at the last meeting to make this month’s meeting an evening session to allow interested parties who have been unable to attend the daytime meetings an opportunity to attend. Guest speakers this month include Andy Higby, who is carrying out the review of Community Mental Health Teams and Mary Tidyman talking about the Mental Health Promotion Strategy.
The next meeting is planned for Wednesday 22nd July at The Beehive Centre, West Street in Grays at 7pm and is for anyone who is a mental health service user or a carer although organisational representatives are also welcome.
