Essex FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) is urging Le Crossing to scrap its congestion causing toll booths at the Dartford Crossing and go on line to collect its cash!
Chairman of Essex FSB, Iain Wicks, said: “Essex FSB believes it is ridiculous that in the 21st century motorists have to scramble around for coins to throw in to a bucket to raise a barrier that is blocking their journey!
“The London Congestion Charge can be paid by telephone, via a website on line or by SMS which means that traffic keeps moving and motorists can make the payment in a way which is convenient to them.
“Yet none of these methods are available for the Dartford Crossing Toll which is why Essex FSB has written to Le Crossing urging them to move in to the 21st century.
“Using electronic payment methods would speed traffic and also save a tremendous amount in bank charges and time which must be involved in sorting and banking the thousands of coins they must collect each day.
“We are sure that agreement could even be reached to use the London Congestion Charge team to collect the Dartford Crossing Toll too.
“Such a scheme would mean the toll booths could be axed enabling traffic to flow much more freely thus reducing pollution at the Dartford Crossing and saving businesses thousands of pounds a day as the delays disappear.
“We hope Le Crossing will be receptive to our suggestion and act fast to implement such a scheme.”
