Night of Drink Driving in Thurrock

Police are warning drivers who continue to flout the law by drinking and driving that they will be stopped and will face prosecution.

Last night (friday) four men were arrested for drink driving and other offences.

A 29 year old man from Stanford le Hope was arrested in Newton Close, Corringham when a Jaguar S type failed to stop for police around 11pm. He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

He has been charged with driving offences including driving without a licence or insurance, drink driving,, aggravated vehicle taking and failing to stop for police. He is bailed to Grays Magistrates court on October 29.

Around midnight police stopped a 28 year old man from Basingstoke, Hants on the A13,near the Orsett Cock roundabout. He was breathalysed and arrested. He has been charged with drink driving after blowing nearly 3 ½ times the limit. He has been bailed to appear at Grays Magistrates court on October 29.

Early this morning (Oct 17) police were called to a car that had crashed into a wall in Prince Charles Avenue, Orsett. The 24 year old male driver from Orsett was arrested for blowing double on the breathalyser test. He is still in custody.

Around 3am this morning a 34 year old man from Grays was arrested when he was stopped by officers and provided a positive sample of breath. He was subsequently further arrested on suspicion of driving license and immigration offences, taking a vehicle without consent and obstructing police. He is still in custody.

Ch Insp Alan Cotgrove said: “I am shocked by the number of people who continue to drink heavily and then get into their car. Two men blew three times over the limit. They are risking the lives of innocent drivers and pedestrians as well as their own. We will not tolerate those people who flout the law and they will be arrested and charged.”
