Aveley 2 v 5 Carshalton

By Trevor Quantock

Richard Jolly signaled Carshalton’s intentions in the opening minutes when his shot hit the right-hand post.

Millers first chance came with a Ryan Edgar free kick from 30 yards out. The initial strike hit the wall and the follow up flew wide of the left-hand post.

Louis Bell then forced his way through a crowd of players but Jamie Lunan did well to save his shot at the foot of the post.

The game burst into life with two goals in the nineteenth minute. Jolly scored from just inside the box when given plenty of room. The equalizer from Martin Tuohy followed almost immediately when he turned well in the box and shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

Matt Johnson then had a chance with a header but his effort went wide.

Jolly then had a chance to regain the advantage for Carshalton but Lunan did well to save with his feet.

The Robbins regained the lead nine minutes into the second half when Karl Murray shot home from 10 yards.

Jolly had another chance to add to his tally in the 64th minute. This time with an overhead kick that went over the bar.

Midway through the half Carshalton extended their lead when a Louis Bell shot hit the back of the net from the edge of the Penalty Area. Three minutes later Craig Faulconbridge all but sealed the win when he swept in a long low cross from the right.

With ten minutes to go Sherwin Stanley gave Aveley a brief glimmer of hope as he found room and slotted passed Nick Hamann from ten yards.

Jolly completed the scoring a minute later as he hit a well struck shot from 22 yards.

Piers Wixon came close to a third for Aveley when he hit the post from close range.

Carshalton fully deserved their win with a good display of clinical finishing.
