Tilbury welcomed Romford to Chadfield’s on Saturday. Tilbury boss Graham Chester staying faithful to the starting 11 that has remained consistent throughout the past 3 games.
The Dockers Physio Steve Taylor doing a fine job prior to kick off on Saturday, reports a clean bill of health ahead of the league fixture.
The first period saw only a handful of goal mouth incidents, the best chance falling to Romford youngster Paul Burnett who broke free of the Tilbury defence and tried a cheeky chip from the edge of the box, but the ball just fell over the bar.
The second period exploded into a game packed full of incidents, starting in the 48th minute, a Joe Keith Corner saw an unmarked Ben Bradbury nod home from close range to put the Dockers 1-0 in front.
50 minutes gone, and a long clearance down the left by Joel Barnett to the feet of Chris Taylor who heads off towards the Romford goal, with just Romford’s keeper Neil Finn to beat the lively front man shoots, leaving Finn to make a good save to his right.
51st minute and Tilbury extend their lead, Chris Taylor does well to skip past the Romford defence and swing the ball across goal to the feet of Kayan Kalipha and from 8 yards out smashes the ball past Finn to make the score 2-0 to the Dockers.
Tilbury continue to keep the visitors penned into their own half, Jamie Wallace the Dockers skipper combining well with Christian wheeler as they spearhead another Tilbury attack.
The Tilbury rear guard of Rickie Hayles, Glen Golby, Joe Keith and Daniel Smith working well together – now forming a solid line of defence, and at times seems impenetrable.
The Dockers now extend their lead from another set piece, Joe Keith once again with a crisp feed into the box, on to the head of Kayan Kalipha who guides the ball into the net, defecting off Ben Bradbury’s chest, however, the linesman keeping his flag down for offside as Bradbury was in the net and behind the line when the ball was played, 3-0 to the Dockers.
The Dockers made their first substitute in the 26th minute, Jamie Wallace off for the creative Lee Hodges.
Romford on a rare attack venture into the Dockers half, the ball spun across goal and Richard Oxby hitting the ball just wide of the post.
77 minutes gone and Tilbury go 4 up, Lee Hodges beating the offside trap from just inside the Romford half, Hodges then tears off towards goal, Romford Keeper Finn comes out to narrow the angle, however, Hodges spotting Bradbury making ground to his right lays the ball into the path of the Tilbury younger who strokes the ball into the net from 3 yards out to score his second of the game and Tilbury’s 4th.
Tilbury make their second substitute, Lee Hayes enters the field after 82 minutes and replaces Ben Bradbury.
Romford’s never say die attitude nearly causing the Dockers defence to wobble, a good ball over the top of the advancing Dockers back line, into the path of Chris Thomas and from 7 yards out smashes the ball over the bar as the Romford striker holds his head in his hands in disbelief!
Dockers make their last substitute, Defender Rickie Hayles making way for Julio Barnes.
85th minute and the Dockers press the Romford defence, once more the Romford defence caught flat-footed as Chris Taylor beats the offside trap, with Finn out of his goal Taylor deciding to smash the ball rather then chip the keeper, Taylor feels the frustration as the ball goes wide of the post!
88 minutes gone and Romford pull one back, some great work down the left by Paul Burnett who skipped past Tilbury’s last defender, Burnett to the by-line sends the ball across gaol and into the path of Chris Thomas who slides the ball into the net from close range leaving the Dockers keeper Andy Hall not chance whatsoever.
The game now into injury time and Tilbury have their last attempt on goal, Lee Hodges effort sails just over the bar from just inside the box. Match official Mr Hayto added a few extra minutes for injuries finally bringing the came to a close.
A good all-round team performance from the Dockers, a much needed boast of goals will inject confidence in the side.
After Saturdays other league results, the Dockers move up to 10th spot only 7 points behind league leaders Great Wakering Rovers.
