Budget Cuts: Rights to Reply

SO FAR we have had the details of the budget proposals, we have had the thoughts of Labour leader John Kent. We have also interviewed Basildon South and East Thurrock MP Angela Smith.

YourThurrock attended a press briefing with Interim Chief Executive Bob Coomber, Council Leader Garry Hague and Deputy Leader Amanda Arnold. We have requested interviews with them over the coming weeks.

We have e-mailed each portfolio holder and invited them between now and full council on December 8th to discuss the proposals and how it may impact upon their portfolios.

We have also contacted the two Independent councillors in East Tilbury to gauge their thoughts as the budget will depend on how they vote.

We have had two replies so far.

Cllr Barry Johnson felt it would be better after a number of the committees have scrutinised the proposals.

Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care, Amanda Arnold has informed us that it is half term and so, unless it is an emergency, she cannot be contacted until November 9th.

Whether you think that is an indication of how important it is to have a work/life balance or a stunning piece of insensitivity in the light of the fact that many people may lose their jobs in the run up to christmas. You judge for yourself.

For your information, independent schools, outside the borough are on half term.
