Neighbourhood Watch were out recruiting for more members with local police today (Tuesday) as part of the Home Office’s Not in My Neighbourhood Week.
Local administrators met members of the public outside the South Ockendon Community Forum in Derwent Parade to tell them what Neighbourhood Watch has been doing in the area to combat crime.
Essex Police Watch administrator for Thurrock, Angie Pearson, said: “Neighbourhood Watch has proven to be effective time after time, so it is important that local people get involved to keep it going. It is a great detterent to criminals and provides an effective form of communication between communities and local police.
“It has been great to tell locals what we have been doing to combat crime in the area, as well as telling them how they can have an active role in their community.”
