Members of the School Council from Quarry Hill Junior School recently visited the Houses of Parliament.
The children, accompanied by members of staff and parents, received a wave from Gordon Brown as he was entering the House of Commons for Question Time.
The group had a guided tour of the House of Lords and gained an insight into the workings of Parliament.
A workshop about how laws are made proved very interesting and the council passed their own law that goods would be free in shops every thursday with a limit on the number of items per person.
They were joined by Thurrock MP Andrew Mackinlay who talked about his work as an MP and his plans for retirement. The group agreed that the day had given them a better understanding of the workings of Parliament and would help them in their work as representatives of their classes.
