Police in Grays are seeking witnesses to a vicious attack on a 61-year-old local man that left him with a broken nose, concussion and facial injuries that required about 30 stitches.
The man left the Working Mans Club, Grays at 11pm on Saturday, November 7, 2009 and was walking towards the bus stops in Crown Road. He waved down a taxi and had a conversation with the driver before it drove off as he decided to walk home.
The victim walked along London Road and as he passed Aldi he was attacked by three men. He was struck around the face with either a cosh or an iron bar, and knocked to the ground. The attack continued as he lay on the ground, until a woman shouted at the men, causing them to run off.
The victim was taken to Basildon hospital for treatment.
The attackers are described as being three white men, possibly of Eastern European origin. Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the attack to contact them, and in particular, for the taxi driver and woman who shouted at the men to come forward.
