WHAT A MONTH!
The Audit Commission publish their “Direction of Travel’ report which put Thurrock Council in the bottom five in the country. There are calls for Council Leader Terry Hipsey to go. Cllr Hipsey returns from honeymoon, calls a press conference and declares the man is not for turning.
One week later, at a full council meeting and to the amazement of many, he crosses the floor and defects to the Labour Party. it looks like a calculated coup and we feel the hand of Morris but the Tories cling onto power. Hold the Front Page!
Meanwhile, another boost for people power sees the Corringham Traders rise up as one to successfully fight the proposed imposition of car parking charges. Their use of facebook merged with yourthurrock films appearing on youtube showed the potent force of social media.
Thurrock Council’s plan to spruce up the underpasses using urban graffiti started to bear fruit. A new nightclub called Entourage opened up in Grays. Hopes that it would not be a magnet for trouble soon evaporated.
Thurrock Learning Campus opened to great fanfare with a dynamic look and ambitious mission statement. It was there we met the fine people of Pixelwork who joined forces with us and re-designed our web-site.
Meanwhile, we saw Diversity on Britain’s Got Talent and noticed that the kid with the great hair and glasses was from Gable Hall (Perri Kiely)
West Ham legend Frank McAvennie was, well what can i say, a legend.
