The Development Corporation and a leading Tory candidate have added their praise to DP World’s decision to green light the first trance of investment for the Super-Port to the tune of £136 million.
Chairman of Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation, Will McKee, said; “We have worked closely with DP World on its plans for London Gateway and the infrastructure required to support it. London Gateway represents one of the largest capital projects in the UK and will create a global trade hub in Thurrock. As well as delivering jobs and opportunities, the port will provide a major boost to Thurrock’s economy and provide a world class training academy for the future.”
While Stephen Metcalfe, prospective Conservative MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock also welcomed the news. He said: “It now appears the port development that has been proposed for years is now to finally proceed.
If I am fortunate to be elected I will make it a main priority as the next MP to ensure that adequate funding is secured for improvements to the local road and rail networks, and that those improvements are in place to cope with the increase in lorry movements and rail traffic before the port is fully operational.”
“The people of Stanford-le-Hope have always expressed concern about the impact this development will have on them and on the town. I want to do all I can to minimise that impact while making the most of the opportunities this presents.”
