Visually Impaired Unit at St Clere’s

IT SEEMS that the sum of a school is made up of it’s excellent components. St Clere’s recent Ofsted, which involved six “outstandings” from the government watchdog endorsed this view.

One of the beacons of the school is the Visually Impaired Unit. As you enter the Unit, there is a calm ambience where excellence is celebrated. The area is broken up into small rooms where students assisted by modern technology can learn in a peaceful environment.

In the staff resource room, teachers are constantly updating and improving work units aimed at streamlining and adapting work for the individual students.

YourThurrock interviewed Head of Dept, Helen Brice about the history of the department: the challenges and opportunities as well as shadowing one of the students, Ceylan, who obviously enjoys her work with the department and is able to give us a better idea of why the department works so well.
