Established in 2009, Southend based Essex Pirates are the exciting new kids in town of Essex sport. Playing in the British Basketball League they plan to give a taste of NBA to the county.
The Pirates are keen to embed themselves into the community. Not because they have to but because they realise and appreciate how important education is.
YourThurrock caught up with the Pirates on a Health and Hoops day at Chadwell St Mary Primary School. It was quite a sight to see the man mountains sitting on the primary school chairs. Then again even the reporters were asked if they wanted a stool to stand on!
The pupils really took to the players and absorbed everything they said.
We look forward to seeing a lot more of the Pirates in the borough.
