THE students of Gateway Academy visited Auschwitz recently and took time to reflect upon their experiences.
The visit clearly had a profound effect on the students we spoke to and yet (Lewis Bunger, Gregory Webb, Benjamin Ward, Lewis Renshaw, Amy Richards, Georgina Fisher, Rebecca Smith and Alana Day) all appeared to come back with a different perspective.
Rebecca Smith said: “I found out so much that I could take back to my community. My family, my friends and people I go to school with.” while Benjamin Ward was less optimistic about what society has learned. He said: “There have been atrocities in the Balkans and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. What have we learned?”
