Thurrock’s young runner Jessica Judd ran an outstanding race to win the Under 15 Girls’ event in the English National Cross-Country Championships at Roundhay Park, Leeds on Saturday.
Jessica went straight into the lead and managed to pull further away from her opposition around the four kilometre course to beat all her rivals.
After finishing third last year she was understandably nervous beforehand but once the hooter sounded for the start of the race, the worry disappeared and she was able to get on with the task in hand.
A delighted Jessica said afterwards: “I wanted to just stay with the leaders until about halfway and then make my move on the downhill section of the course, but I found myself in the lead almost straightaway and felt the best I had all winter, so I just kept going.”
Jessica attends Grays Convent school and runs for Chelmsford AC.
