From Thurrock to Nigeria

THIS LOOKS like a fantastic opportunity for Thurrock students to spread their wings and see the world.

The programme is called Global Xchange and is run as a partnership between the British Council and Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO).

The X-change is running an international volunteering programme which will be based in Thurrock from July until September this year.

The volunteers who are involved are all aged 18-25, and come from across the UK and Nigeria.

Organiser Jennifer Angus is trying to get local people involved by becoming host families for the volunteers whilst they are based in Thurrock.

It’s a six month programme with half taking place in Thurrock and half in Nigeria. The programme begins in Nigeria at the end of April. So over the course of the six months, they’ll do 10,000 hours of volunteering.

Over 100 teams have taken part in Global Xchange over the last 10 years and this is the first time that the programme will have taken place in Thurrock.
