The Thurrock Election count was slammed as a shambles this morning as the return ground to a standstill.
Whilst counts all over the country indeed the county were returned at lightning speed, the whole counting system at the Civic Hall, Blackshots was being left behind.
The count was expected to finish at 2.30am but by 4am it was estimated that the earliest return would be by 5.30 at the earliest.
With tellers falling asleep on the tables, no explanation was profferred as to why there was a delay.
A council spokesperson said: “Our plan is to complete the count as soon as possible.”
The candidates were obviously growing increasingly restless as well as the local candidates who were facing the stark realisation that there count may not take place until much later on friday.
