Vicious Assault in South Ockendon

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to an assault in South Ockendon which has left a man requiring reconstructive surgery.
The attack happened when a 19-year-old man was punched and kicked by five men in an alleyway outside the Knight of Aveley Public House on Derry Avenue at 12:30am on Sunday, May 16.
The victim was conveyed to Basildon University Hospital after sustaining serious facial injuries.
Investigating Officer, Dc Karen Berry, said: “At this stage, we don’t know what caused this assault. This man has been severely disfigured and so I’m hoping that people can help us help him by giving us the information which will lead to his attackers’ arrests.”
The assailants were wearing dark hoodies and tracksuit bottoms.
The victim, who lives in the Grays area, is currently in a stable condition at the hospital in Basildon, but is going to be transferred to Broomfield Hospital on Monday (May 17 ) for reconstructive surgery on his jaw.
