Cohen and Leslie Strike For Stanford

Stanford-Le-Hope CC 204/9 Beat Hadleigh and Thundersley CC 202 all out by 1 wicket.

On a damp, overcast day at Stanford Rec, Stanford-Le-Hope CC won the toss and elected to bowl first. Opening pair of Greg Cohen (3/42) and Andrew Love (0/32) swung the ball around corners to the experienced Hadleigh batsman. Hadleigh lost wickets at regular intervals but kept the run rate up through a good 32 from Aussie Dan Jackson and hard-hitting John Snelling (30). Neil Samwell came on to bowl first change and started where he left off the previous day by ripping through the Hadleigh middle order with figures of 3/25 from his allotted 8 overs. Smith (35) and Wagstaff (35) set about rebuilding the Hadleigh innings before Ross Poulton put them in a spin with his wiley spin bowling taking 3/28.

Stanford’s opening pair of Harry Maher (43) and Sean Barker (36) smashed the Hadleigh opening bowlers out of the attack making sure that they were ahead of the run rate as grey skies loomed. A couple of tight overs from Jackson and Wagstaff brought Stanford below the run rate before Stanford captain Martin Leslie bashed his way to a quickfire 24 to get Stanford back on track. Greg Cohen continued his rich vein of form with the bat by putting Stanford in a winning position with a fine 24 not out. However, the match went right down to the last ball as Stanford needed 3 runs to win, Stanford’s number 11 Neil Samwell managed to clip the ball off his legs for 4, sending the Stanford players wild and doubling his runs so far this season.
