MEN over 40 in the borough can get a free NHS health check as part of men’s health week.
The checks are available at Morrisons car park in London Road, Grays, on Thursday June 17 from 10am to 6.30pm, and at Tilbury Market from 10am to 1pm the next day.
Checks are also available on the Friday at Derwent Parade in South Ockendon between 2pm and 4.30pm.
The scheme is aimed at 40 to 74 year-olds who don’t have an existing diagnosis of heart disease, stroke, diabetes or chronic kidney disease, and assesses the risk of developing these diseases so that action can be taken to reduce the risk where it is high.
It involves straightforward questions and measurements, such as age, sex, family history, height, weight and blood pressure.
There is also a simple blood test, usually a pin prick, to measure cholesterol levels.
