Thurrock Firefighters had to deal with a serious fire at Loewes Scrap Yard in Manor Rd Grays tonight.
Palls of acrid smoke hung over the town and further calls were received to Lionel Oxley House as members of the public became engulfed in the smoke and mistook the smoke as coming from the tower blocks.
The fire broke out just before 7pm tonight and involved 5 tonnes of scrap metal. Four appliances fought the blaze and fam was used to contain the blaze.
Crews were still working with the yard owners at 10 pm to try and eliminate any hotspots
