Thurrock confirmed tonight (Thursday 8th July 2010) that they have agreed a one year deal with Cliff Akurang, the former Barnet forward.
This is Cliff’s third spell with Thurrock having made 121 appearances and scoring 48 goals on his previous two spells. One of those goals was the classic against Luton Town in the FA Cup first round replay on 18th Nov 2003 which Luton won 3-1.
Manager Hakan Hayrettin found it difficult to hide his delight at the announcement stating “I am extremely pleased with Cliff he knows I can get the best out of him which will benefit both parties”.
Thurrock Chairman Tommy South was also excited. He said:” Hakan has been quietly pursuing Cliff over the summer and its great to have Cliff back at the club, he loves it here and we love him here and hopefully his goals will help Thurrock have another great season”.
Cliff is expected to make his return on Tuesday evening at Ship Lane when Thurrock start their pre season friendlies against Barnet at 7:30pm followed by West Ham at 3:00pm on saturday 17th.
