ON Thursday May 6th, the voters of Chafford Hundred turned up in their droves to usher in the new government. On top of the hill by the offices of Great Homes on Ascension Road stood a sign saying “Vote Conservative: Vote For Change”.
All the Tory candidates in Chafford Hundred stood side by side with David Cameron at his rally in Palmer’s College, where he declared his beliefs in The Big Society.
At last night’s cabinet meeting of Thurrock’s ruling Labour Group, they threw down the gauntlet to the councillors and residents by amending the decision to close the library but with a catch.
Portfolio Holder, Lyn Worrall announced that the library would remain open for three half days per week.
Cllr Worral said: “I note that the Conservatives are supporters of The Big Society. Well, here is an opportunity for volunteers to keep the library open for the rest of the time.”
Earlier, Chair of the Chafford Hundred PTA, John Cowman presented a petition of 500 signatures to the Cabinet appealing for the third most used library in Thurrock to remain open.
Funnily, enough, you will see from the ten second clip below that when we were filming outside on saturday, a resident tried to enter the library but it was closed.

Oh dear!
