ALL AROUND the borough, the ground is parched and tinder-dry after almost ten weeks of hardly any rain.
Yesterday (saturday) two fires broke out in East Tilbury which may herald a busy time for the fire service in August.
Firefighters tackled a wild fire affecting approximately two hectares of standing crops and woodlands near Princess Margaret Road around 2.30pm.
Later that evening, firefighters tackled a blaze in approximately 5000 metres squared of grass in East Tilbury near to Gobions Field. Using two hose reel jets, water backpacks and beaters they had extinguished the fire by 21:00hrs.
