McCarthy wins regional boxing title

TWO of Chadwell Boxing ABC shone at a recent championship in Brentwood.

Kieran Redding, 18, from Grays and Matt McCarthy, 17, from Tilbury fought at the Hutton Centre Brentwood in the Eastern Counties regional CYP boxing championships.

Redding faced four boxers in the 60kg cateogory and was prepared for the fact that he would be boxing twice in one day.

Redding drew first with the tougher opponent in the group and faced Kane Steff of Berry boys in his first bout.

The Chadwell teenager secured himself a unanimous win over Steff with a very controlled performance.

He then faced the more technical boxer Michael Kline, a south paw, from Romford ABC.

Redding was clearly ahead in the first two rounds. But Kline was given the decision.

Matt McCarthy came up against the more experienced Tyler McCarthy from Five Star ABC in the 63.5 kg catogory of the championships. McCarthy was dominant and outboxed his rival.

Matt McCarthy took the regional title on a well deserved unanamous decicion.

Matt boxes on Sunday October 17 at the Hutton Centre Brentwood in the next round of the CYP championships.
