T-Birds top the table after taming Bulls

T-birds travelled to their old rivals Aylesford Bulls on Sunday. It was a fine day for rugby and both teams were certainly up for the game. The game started well from the T-Birds perspective. They got into patterns of play quickly and were soon 5-0 up from Sally Appleton.

Tees scrums were on top of Aylesford from the start but they came back strong for the second part of the first half in open play. Tees were trying out some new formations in the backs which involved some change of personnel in positions which lead to our defence being tested regularly.

Tees were down to 14 when the ref unjustly binned one of their girls. The second half started and Aylesford scored a quick try and converted it. This woke up Tees who scored a quick try back through new superstar Emily Scott. Poor discipline with controversial decisions from the ref lead to both teams being punished with further yellow cards.

Tees started getting into their phases more and good link play between the Katie Fenn and then props Charlie Micallef and Mercedes Foy lead to the Tees next try being scored into the corner by Dani Harris. Tees were in much better flow now with another 2 trys by Scott and Kidd with Scott kicking 3 conversions. Final score was 31-7.

Forward of the match was Jo Convoy and back of the match was Emily Scott. The T-Birds were pleased with the final score and achieving their third bonus point from 3 games.

They still haven’t hit their peak performance and with a lot of long term injuries to key players the next few games will be tougher still.

Thurrock T-Birds are at home this Sunday 24th October with a 3pm kick off vs Rosslyn Park. The T-Chicks play before hand at 1pm vs Guildford.
