Peter Taylor reports
A bright a breezy Sunday morning saw our under 13s away to South Woodham Ferris for their second league encounter of the season.
SWF were obviously very up for the encounter and they commanded the early exchanges there strong pack were winning much of the set play ball but T’s forwards had the better of the lose play, defended stoutly and held the home team of for 10 mins when they were camped in our 22. A couple of injuries in the 1st half to Seb and Frazer saw the introduction of George and Naji both who made a fine impact on the game.
SWF worked a good overlap and finally breeched the T’s line but failed to convert. Heads did not go down and the lads came out in the second half inspired. Strong running from our talisman Naji saw him go over for our 1st score and the try was converted very well by Caolan as T’s took a slight lead. To be fair SWF never really looked like scoring in the second half and although they played a good kicking game this only gave T’s useful possession which was well used by our centres George and Naji who went over for his second score halfway through the second half.
T’s could have scored 3 or 4 more in the second half but failed to hit some passes and had a few decisions go against them .
It was indeed a good team performance from the guys and they fought for each other very well. Speaking to the disappointed SWF coaches afterwards it was agreed that they key was the T’s defensive performance in the 1st half and although it was very hard to pick out one as from a very fine team display Max had to down the orange juice as MOTM
