Levi shows that boxing is in his genes…..

Chadwell St Mary Amateur Boxing Club youngster Levi Lee 11 years of Gateway Acadamy School in Tilbury is rejoicing after a run of “great success”.

Levi has won his last six boxing bouts at 42kg, his wins include a gold medal when he travelled to Sweden in November to box in the Angered Box Cup Tournament held in Gothenburg.

Lee boxed A.Ismali from Sweden in the first round of the competition and won the bout by a clear points decision placing him in the finals the following day against Denmark’s J Danielsen. Lee showed great skill and talent for such a young boxer in this bout gaining him yet another win and earning him “best boxer of the diploma tournament”.

On his return to England Lee boxed the older and more experienced Newham A.B.C boxer Henry Johnston at the Prince Regents Hotel Boxing dinner show at Chigwell in Essex on Friday 19th November and once again won the bout with a unanamous points decision.

Team Mate Ben Davey 17yrs 54kg boxed on the same show against the host club Waltham Forest A.B.C T. Coutts, Davey lost this very close bout by a majority decision.

Chadwell A.B.C boxers Michael Maloney 15yrs 57kg and Reggie Coffey 25yrs 75kg boxed in Clacton Town Hall on Thursday 18th November on a Essex versus Surrey Boxing dinner show. Maloney skillfully outboxed the more experienced Woking A.B.C three nations winner at 52kg Louis Murphy. Maloney and Murphy were matched for this bout both at the heavier weight of 57kg.

Reggie Coffey outboxed the strong Guilford City A.B.C boxer Rocky Dean. Coffey boxed well and overpowered his opponents heavy swinging blows with a flurry of accurate well timed straight shots gaining Coffey a unanamous points decision.

Chadwell St Mary A.B.C chairperson Sindy Overy stated the club is very busy and continues to go from strength to strength. The number of carded boxers has increased which reflects the clubs growing popularity. The club now hosts five champions Nina Smith female A.B.A champion and olympic games 2012 hopeful. Nina is currently on the Great Britain female elite boxing squad training at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. Michael Maloney schoolboy champion and three nations champion. Mikey is currently number one in Great Britain at 54kg. Matt McCarthy 63.5kg Essex ,Eastern Counties and Southern counties C.Y.P champion. Shadreck Nyamonokora Essex and Easten counties senior Novice Champion at 75kg. Jack Healy British University Champion as well as sports personality of the year for his university in Southampton.

Not forgetting Jake Wise who won his bout and returned with a gold medal when he travelled to New York with the Essex boxing squad in a team match of Essex versus New York held at the Bronx in September 2010 and Levi Lee gold medalist from the Angered Box Cup Tournament in Sweden.

Sindy said “We run on subs alone and we are desperate for funding , sponsorship or donations that will enable us to provide our boxers with the much needed inter club sparring, amateur bouts as well as the international experince that is required to continue to box at this high level of championship boxing.
