ANN Milne, president, opened the evening by welcoming ladies who had persevered to get to our first annual meeting, despite the adverse traffic conditions caused by the closure of the QE2 bridge.

Ladies were advised that Chafford Hundred WI was now a member of the WIsome Lottery Club. Janet King reminded ladies of the arrangements for the Christmas meal, to be held at Top Meadow Golf Club on Thursday, December 16.

WI adviser Tricia Evans finally arrived with us at 8.30pm to oversee the committee elections. Ann Milne was elected president for our second year and she thanked ladies for their vote of confidence.

Our speaker for the evening was Shaun from the Royal Opera House, who gave an interesting talk on developments since the move from Stratford to the High House Production Park in Purfleet.

He also enlightened us with details of the forthcoming Purfleet Fair 2010, to be held in December at High House, and the production of Ludd & Isis.

Our raffle prize of a beautiful bouquet of flowers was won by Patricia Henry.

Chafford Hundred WI is now in its second year and meets on the second Thursday of each month, from 7pm to 9.30pm, at the Beacon, All Saints Church, Drake Road.

We have an interesting programme of events scheduled for 2011 and would welcome new ladies to come along and join us.
