Year in review: November

Winegate dominated the local news and also made the national headlines after three Conservative councillors’ behaviour at a civic function, in the Mayor’s car and then in a Corringham pub was called into question. It lead to the Deputy Mayor, Eddie Hardiman resigning as Deputy Mayor and the two others, Danny Nicklen and James Halden being castigated. Neither one resigned as a councillor.

Over the year, we often publish reports of crimes in the borough. We asked the question of how many crimes were solved? We obtained the stats and on the face of it, it didn’t look good. Later on, we interviewed Div Commander Ch Insp Paul Moor who was able to make sense of the stats or at least plead his case.

Which also leads us to “Police seek man in green car after several incidents near schools” Again, we will follow that up in the new year.

Big Brother’s Chantelle was found on top of the Lakeside Christmas tree! Spurs legend Ricky Villa was at Lakeside as were Pixie Lott and Sheila Steafal. Phil Jupitus came to Corringham library.

Thurrock Business Centre opened. There was a fascinating Ethical Fashion Show in Corringham and a superb show called Eurobeat by TTMS.

There was a wonderful Diwali celebration at the Thameside.

Dave Venables broke a powerlifting record. East Thurrock kept a 100% record in November.
