Thurrock boss quits after just three months

THURROCK boss Greg Lincoln has quit the struggling Blue Square Bet South outfit after just eleven games.

It had been a miserable start to 2011 for the 30-year-old former Gunner with a 6-1 defeat to Chelmsford City on New Year’s Day, and a 7-2 drubbing by Dover Athletic two days later.

From the outset, many football pundits felt Lincoln was only “keeping the seat warm” for ex-Braintree boss Robbie Garvey.

Indeed Garvey became a regular fixture at Thurrock matches. As his presence increased, albeit from the sidelines, so the confidence of Lincoln and his charges seemed to evaporate.

Predictably, Garvey has now joined the coaching staff. Assistant manager will Grant Gordon will be in charge of the team until the end of the season joining ex-West Ham midfielder Lee Hodges, and former Dagenham & Redbridge defender Lee Goodwin.

Thurrock are second from bottom in the table, three points from safety. They travel to Dartford tomorrow.
