February’s Open Forum Meeting was well-attended: the focus for the meeting was Road Safety and PC John Harman of the Motorcycle Unit told us about a new initiative where members of his unit were allocated stretches of road to monitor, using the principles of enforcement, education and engineering to address any traffic problems. PC Mark Adderley covers the A128, from Orsett Cock to Ongar and will attend our next open meeting on May 12th at 6.30pm
James and Dee of our Flood Group reported that, using funds raised by villagers in the past, they had bought a petrol pump, to deal with large volumes of water which may threaten homes in Bulphan. They plan to also buy a smaller pump. They can be emailed on firstname.lastname@example.org for advice or help re flooding.
There were updates on planning decisions regarding the Harrow Inn site and Burrows Farm.
The results of the speed survey commissioned by the Forum and carried out by the council showed that traffic is in fact speeding through Bulphan. After discussion of the traffic-calming options, the majority of those present voted to allocate funds towards installing speed cushions in 2 key locations (Church Road and Fen Lane). Funds were also allocated to maintenance of the willow-dome.
Miss Fishleigh, headteacher of Bulphan School, and PC Brian Sargeant, our neighbourhood officer, also made useful suggestions of actions they could take to help with parking outside the school.
