THE one abiding memory of going to see Hairspray at Gateway Academy last week was how professional the whole performance was.

Right from the beginning, the show oozed energy led by the irrepressible Emily-Rose Hale. I am sure that this actress and singer will go onto be make her mark professionally. She was great as Tracy Turnblad and I look forward to seeing her in other roles.

But this was very much an ensemble piece and it was thanks to the actors around her such as Simon Johnson and Shane Prime to name just two that the musical worked.

The singers were absolutely stunning especially the girls in the black and red dresses: phenomenal!

The show also reached out to the audience. They used all of the auditorium to great effect and thereby engaged the audience greatly.

The sets were very good, the musicianship excellent infact the only regret is that the rest of the borough doesn’t get to see the show.

Just so you know as we have had a few inquiries; we cannot film musical shows and put them on youtube as they infringe copyright.

The clip you see below is from the dress rehearsal.
