Swordsman swipes hundreds at Ockendon Co-op robbery

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to the armed robbery of a Co-op store in South Ockendon last night.

A man dressed in dark clothing, wearing a balaclava, entered the store in Canterbury Parade, at just before 10pm last night, Tuesday, February 15, and threatened staff with a sword.

They were forced to hand over money from the till totalling several hundred pounds.

The man then left the store on foot. No one was injured.

He is described as white, 6ft tall, of slim build, with piercing blue eyes. He was wearing a dark hooded top, dark trousers, gloves and a balaclava. His hood was also up.

Officer conducted a search of the local area following reports of the robbery last night, and arrested a 27-year-old man from Tilbury. Subsequent enquiries have found this man was not responsible.
