Council bosses reject calls for salary cuts

THURROCK Council’s senior bosses have rejected calls to take a salary cut.

Last year, all 49 councillors agreed to take a 5% cut in their allowances as a “show of solidarity” in light of the decisions regarding redundancies and cuts that they would have to make.

But chief executive, Graham Farrant has told council staff that they would not be following their example.

He said: “I have thought long and hard and have decided that this is not the best course of action and that having and keeping a stable leadership team is of paramount importance right now.

“Over the next few months I will actually be increasing the responsibilities of senior managers closer to the communities of Thurrock, with more responsibility for the same pay”.

  1. “I have thought long and hard and have decided that this is not the best course of action…” Pull the other one! You neither thought long nor hard, you made the only choice you were ever going to make. Library opening hours may be cut, services to the community may be done away with but you were always going to make sure you and your team kept your rather good (and in your case, rather huge) salaries whilst laughing in the face of the struggling people of Thurrock. Don’t treat us like Numties.
