Thurrock secure vital point at Hampton

Hampton & Richmond 0 Thurrock 0
Blue Square Bet South

Bill Robinson reports from The Beveree……….

With four straight defeats behind them Thurrock’s visit to South West London became even more important against fellow strugglers Hampton & Richmond.

Thurrock started the game with two of their new signings, Danny Hockton up front as the lone striker and Jacob Mingle in the centre of midfield.

The first forty five minutes was a struggle as both sides were desperate not to concede and the few chances created came on the break.

Thurrock came close to breaking the deadlock on the half hour when they forced to corners and it was Kenny Clark’s header that went inches wide.

Towards the latter part of the half once again Thurrock pushed forward and started to look dangerous and Matt Bodkin started and finished the move with a header that went wide.

HT 0-0

In the second half Thurrock started to take more control of the game and started to play some great football. On the hour they were inches away from taking the lead, Matt Bodkin and Dean Cracknell started the move that found Danny Hockton who was able to strike a fierce right footed shot that hit the inside of the post and disappointingly came out and away to safety.

Hampton were looking dangerous on the break but the Thurrock back four held firm and restricted them to long range efforts that failed to trouble keeper Joe Woolley.

On 78 minutes Thurrock were once again hitting the woodwork, this time a volley from Matt Bodkin had the keeper looking like spectator as he watched the ball drop onto the bar.

With only minutes remaining Dean Cracknell went close on two occasions first firing high over the bar and the second forcing the keeper to save.

At the final whistle both teams were satisfied to have won a point but disappointed not to have won all three.
